Over THIRTY years ago...
In 1991, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios envisioned a camp where Orthodox Christian youth from the Metropolis of Boston and beyond could gather, share their faith, enhance their relationship with God, and connect with each other. With the help of countless generous supporters, The Boston Diocese Camp (BDC), later to become the Metropolis of Boston Camp (MBC) was born. Situated on over 300 acres of land in beautiful Contoocook, New Hampshire, the camp is home to two small lakes, countless hiking trails, and incredible wildlife, in addition to the beautiful facilities.
Thanks to his visionary leadership many years ago, now, over 10,000 young people have now experienced all that MBC has to offer; their lives have been transformed, forever left with the imprint of their six days spent in the peace and serenity of the foothills of the White Mountains, growing in their faith and relationships through Christ.
Twenty Years Later...
Having run successful youth camps over both the summer and winter sessions for nearly 20 years, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios set his ever expanding goal and vision on offering family ministry with the same unique MBC camping experience. In 2009, the Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Retreat Center was completed and opened, boasting 35 individual guest rooms, each complete with two double beds and a private bathroom. Additionally, the Retreat House presented a magnificent Great Room with Cathedral style ceilings, a fireplace, and a large balcony overlooking the lake, as well as a game room, AV room, shared kitchen, library, and several breakout meeting spaces.
Soon, work began on the first ever Family Camping Program at MBC. In the winter of 2010 this new ministry exploded onto the camping scene with the first Family Winter Camp, and eventually Family Spring Camp.

By 2015...
MBC continued to offer weekly summer sessions and annual winter camps, with enrollment growing exponentially each year. Parishes visited the Retreat Center for regular community retreats, and many other Christian organizations began renting the camp facilities for their own programs. In the fall of 2015, due to popular demand and under the direction of the His Eminence, MBC began its first ever GOYA Fall Camp Program, which continues to grow annually.
As the camp steadily expanded, renovations continued to be made to the facilities, including rebuilding four, ADA accessible cabins, a new office building in the center of camp, and countless updates and renovations to the facility infrastructure to support it's growing use.
Over the course of the Covid-19 Pandemic, MBC pivoted to offer virtual camp opportunities to keep youth engaged and involved at their home away from home, when things felt particularly unusual.

Now...
MBC has continued to grow and adapt to the developing needs of the youth of the Metropolis. Currently, MBC runs five, six-day long summer sessions for campers ages 8-18 over the summer, as well as an annual GOYA Fall Camp long weekend. As of January 2024, MBC expanded to offer two GOYA Winter Camp long weekends due to growing demand. MBC is home to countless parish retreats and user groups throughout the year, and MBC staff support retreats and youth programs throughout the Metropolis, both at camp, and in parish communities.
Due to consistent growth and demands on space, and thanks to the support of His Eminence, MBC is currently building a large gym with several basketball and volleyball courts, indoor activity space, and meeting rooms for onsite groups. MBC is deeply committed to growing with the needs of the Metropolis to support youth, young adults, families, and people of all ages in their journey with Christ.
