PREPARING FOR CAMP

Preparing

You're busy filling out paperwork, buying bug spray, and labeling your camper's clothing; but what else can be done to help your camper prepare for a stay at MBC? Particularly for first-time campers, and those spending multiple nights away from home for the first time, careful preparation is key to a successful experience!
Read on to explore topics related to homesickness, camp logistics, and first-time MBC experiences.

homesickness  is  normal

  • Remember, it's not about you! Avoiding passing on your own fears or anxieties to your camper is important in setting them up for success.
  • Provide reassurance. Let your camper know you'll miss them, but you're excited about all the fun they'll have!
  • Review materials together. Explore the website, look at pictures, watch videos, and help your camper prepare for what they might experience.
  • Reach out! Please don't hesitate to reach out directly to us for guidance or support. We've had many, many years of supporting countless campers through the transition to camp and ask that you trust our expertise!

the  logistics

  • Paperwork. Prior to arriving at camp, all paperwork MUST be completed! Financial balances, financial aid applications, health & immunization forms must all be submitted by May 15. We ask for your support and understanding in this endeavor so that we can be best prepared and positioned to support all the campers in our care. Please reach out to the office with any questions!
  • Packing.  Please utilize our packing lists and ensure that campers have adequate and appropriate, LABELED clothing. Keep the extras light!
  • Cabin Requests. Requests may be made during registration; all cabins are build by age, gender, and grade, and cabin requests are not guarantees. Please explore our Cabin Life page for more information.

first-time  camp  experiences

  • The Pillars. As a family, explore the camp pillars to understand the foundations of MBC. Openness and trust are key to a wonderful experience!
  • Making Promises or Deals. It is critical to avoid making promises to your child about their camp experience (cabin mates, specific activities) or deals about picking them up/navigating homesickness. This can often make the problem worse and prevent campers from fully engaging in the experience. We ask that you put your trust in our expert care, and know that we will reach out to you immediately with any issues or concerns.
